In mijn werk staat het portret centraal, zowel het videoportret als het getekende portret, dit laatste al dan niet abstract weergegeven. Ik werk voornamelijk op projectbasis op diverse locaties in binnen en buitenland. In de videoprojecten op lokatie betrek ik zoveel mogelijk mensen vanuit de directe omgeving,door middel van verspreiden van flyers en via de media. Ik onderzoek de lokatie, de verhouding tussen de omgeving, mijzelf en de bewoners.

Tot twee jaar geleden werkte ik enkel en alleen aan projecten met het maken van videoportretten van mensen die alleen in stilte voor de camera zaten in een speciaal daarvoor gebouwde tijdelijke studio. Hieruit heb ik een verzameling van ruim 1000 portretten in stilte opgebouwd. Nu maak ik videowerken waarin gesproken word, ik reis naar tijdelijke locaties en naar aanleiding van mijn eerste onderzoek op die lokatie bepaal ik het ‘thema’ van het videoproject met de daarbij behorende vraag.

De locaties en de daarbij behorende projecten van het afgelopen jaar hebben het thema: thuis... wat is thuis...
Zoals ook bij de projecten in stilte nodig ik de mensen uit in de tijdelijke studio, ik stel de vraag ‘wat betekent thuis voor u’ en verlaat de studio. De betreffende persoon vertelt zijn – haar vaak zeer persoonlijke verhaal. Alle opnames worden op of in de omgeving van de lokatie vertoond in een installatie in de openbare ruimte. De wisselwerking tussen deelnemers van het project en bezoekers – voorbijgangers en de omgeving is een belangrijk onderdeel van het project. In een volgend stadium word een selectie van de gemaakte opnames ook weer gebruikt voor nieuwe installaties.

Parallel aan de projecten op lokatie lopen de honderden tekeningen op groot en klein formaat, soms functioneren ze als op zich zelf staande presentaties, soms worden ze gelijktijdig met de videoinstallaties gepresenteerd. Het zijn de ideeën, de gedachtes, de ervaringen op papier soms in portretvorm soms in persoonlijk verhaalvorm. De tekeningen, de videowerken en projecten op lokatie zijn voor mij onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. Het is het ik tegenover de ander zowel buiten als binnen. Het is de omgeving daar en de omgeving hier. Het is de steeds de vraag en niet het antwoord. Kortom een zoeken naar verhouding, uitwisseling, aanwezigheid en afwezigheid in wisselende sociale structuren.

The key in my portrait work are both the video portrait and the drawn portrait, the latter has not shown abstract. I mainly work on a project basis at various locations at home and abroad. In the video projects on location I involve as many people from the immediate area, by distributing flyers and the media. I examine the location, the relationship between the environment, myself and the residents.

Until two years ago I worked only on projects creating video portraits of people who just sat in silence for the camera in specially constructed temporary studios. Over the years I've collected over 1000 portraits made in silence. Nowadays I make video work in which spoken word. I travel to temporary locations and motivate my first research on that location in which I find the "theme" of the video project with the corresponding question.

The locations and the associated projects of the past year do have the theme of: home ... what is home ...
As with the projects in silence, I invite the people in the temporary studio, I ask the question 'what home means to you' and leave the studio. The person tells his - her often very personal story. All recordings are at or near the location shown in an installation in public space. The interaction between the project participants and visitors - and passers-environment is an important part of the project. In a later stage a selection of recordings are used again in new installations.

Parallel to the projects on site I create hundreds of drawings on large and small size, sometimes they function as stand alone presentations, sometimes they are presented simultaneously with video installations. These are the ideas, the thoughts, experiences on paper in portrait format and sometimes in personal narrative form. The drawings, video works and projects on location are inseparable for me. It's me against the other outside and inside. It is the environment there and the environment here. It is always the question and not the answer. A relatively short search, sharing, presence and absence changing social structures.
